It was 5.30 am on 7 August 2009. I was busy preparing my NCC no.3 shirt. Today my school celebrates National Day. I am involved in the National Day parade where I am the guard-of-honour in the parade along with some of my other fellow uniformed group cadets. I ate my breakfast and did my prayers. The clock shows 6.15 am. I hurried out of the house and reached school around 6.40 am. Some of the other cadets had already arrived. I quickly put my bag in the NCC room and fall in my own uniformed group. The parade commander then briefly goes through with us the sequence. We then wear our white gloves and prepare ourselves for the parade. The signal for us to march in is given. We stand in attention and marched to the quadrangle.
We halted in the middle of the quadrangle. We turned to the front and stand at ease. We waited for the parade to start. Everyone in the school went out of their classes and watched at us. They were cheering and shouting as loud as they could. I was feeling nervous as the whole school is looking at me. I was thinking too many negative thoughts. Then, the signal is given. The parade commander marched in front of us. He commanded us. We stand at attention and salute the national flag. The national anthem was played.
We sang as loud as we could. After that, we took the pledge. Then, us, the guard-of-honour, stood at ease and waited for the principal to give the national day speech. It was very long. Most of us were feeling miserable as we were not able to move and that cause our muscle to ache. Finally it was over. The parade commander then commanded us and we stood in attention. We then turned to our left and prepare to march out. We marched out while the crowd cheered continually.
We marched past the general office to the parade square. Then, we halted and relaxed ourselves. Everybody was smiling and cheering loudly. We were happy that we completed the parade without anyone fainting and we celebrated our achievement with a can of 100 Plus. Everyone gulped it in no time. I was very happy to be part of the guard-of-honour. I hoped that I can be involved in another parade but this time, an even prestigious parade!
